The trees are growing wild in Athel Loren and every Wood Elf army you see will bring one treeman. This rune is definitely your best friend. If you choose not to bring an anvil or gunline there are still some things you can do to give yourself a better chance of success. A pure gunline can bring these buggers down. Tourney Wood Elves are now very much a local superiority close combat army with missile fire as a support component. These are not the Wood Elves of old who put 60+ armour piercing arrows a turn in the air. As a pure gunline you will find you can outshoot them. The anvil inhibits their movement and the DD spell wreaks havoc with their destructive but fragile units (Wardancers, Wild riders, Archers, War hawks, etc).
So, imo, your best chance it to bring out Thorek or a pure gunline. And this is definitely not me bragging about my skill or die rolling. I've played many dwarf lists with my tourney WE army and I've never lost. Any other type of army and you're playing for a draw. An anvil will give 'em trouble, a pure gunline might be able to take em down. Wood Elves are my second favorite army and throughout several editions of Warhammer I've always played WE and Dwarves.įighting a well designed, well played wood elf list with a standard dwarf list is a tough nut to crack. Dwarves are now, have been, and will continue to be, my favorite army regardless of what I think about the current army book.
